R. Kelly not in court

R & B star R. Kelly missed his scheduled court appearance today because of a mishap involving his tour bus, his lawyers said. Attorneys said the bus was detained in Utah for what appeared to be administrative reasons. Kelly was due to appear this morning in Cook County court on child pornography charges stemming from a videotape of a sexual encounter with a teenage girl. Prosecutors urged Judge Vincent Gaughan to issue a warrant for the superstar's arrest, saying he's abused what already is a lenient situation for someone facing such serious charges. Gaughan entered the warrant, but held off on actually issuing it, saying he'd give Kelly another shot to appear in court Thursday morning. Attorneys said Kelly, a Grammy winner, was on his way to Chicago when his bus was stopped by police in Utah. The stop originally was for speeding, but police later ordered the bus to pull over at a hotel so the driver could rest for eight hours before continuing, lawyers said. Kelly is expected to be in court tomorrow, officials said. Gaughan says he hopes to be able to set a trial date in the five-year-old case then.
