N. Aurora administrator gets two-year contract extension

North Aurora Administrator Sue McLaughlin will be with the village for at least two more years now that she has agreed to a new contract.

Village trustees unanimously approved her contract after a closed session at a board meeting earlier this month.

McLaughlin has been with the village for 3½ years and looks forward to staying with a job and village she loves, as well as completing some exciting projects, she said.

"I would like to stay and see the police station finished. It's a great project the village needs," McLaughlin said.

The new station at the corner of Route 31 and Airport Road is scheduled to open in mid-2010.

Other project on her plate is continuing improvement along Route 31, including removing power poles and widening the street where possible. She also wants to see the village start work on a riverfront development that could bring a boardwalk and many more attractions near village hall on State Street.

She will also bring changes to the village staff by re-organizing the building and zoning department. The village will add a community development director position and could change the focus of the department to take a more active role working with businesses.

McLaughlin's checks will be a little larger. Her new contract calls for her to make a base salary of $95,000 in 2008 and $99,000 in 2009 with performance bonuses from $4,000 to $12,000 both years. She made $88,000 in 2007.

"I look forward to continuing work with my great staff. Growing up near here, the village has a special spot with me and I love my job," McLaughlin said.
