Kickboxer still fighting her way to top

One in a series of stories updating the people who made news in 2007.

Felice Herrig's already flourishing career in kickboxing received a boost after she appeared in a reality TV show over the summer.

The Buffalo Grove resident was picked to be on the Oxygen Network's "Fight Girls" series, which debuted in June.

Herrig -- pegged as the girlie girl on the show because of her interest in doing her hair and nails -- lived with nine other girls in Las Vegas during the show and traveled to Thailand to compete with Muay Thai fighters.

She won her match there and now she's going to be debuting in a second reality show in February.

That show, on the Versus Network, features the World Combat League, created by Chuck Norris, which Herrig currently belongs to. She's been fighting with the St. Louis Enforcers.

"Fight Girls" "was awesome; it helped me get a lot of good recognition," Herrig said. "It helped me get more fights."

Since then, Herrig has left Z's Martial Arts in Huntley and moved on to a new gym -- Flo Mixed Martial Arts -- in Palatine for training. She also left her job at a beauty salon in Wheeling.

"I'm just trying to focus on my fighting," she said. "I've been training like crazy."
