Grant puts technology to work for low-income folks
Administer Justice, a community justice center in East Dundee meeting the needs of low-income persons facing legal challenges, was awarded $18,845 to support a new technology initiative by the AT&T Foundation.
"We were very impressed with what Administer Justice has been able to accomplish and are pleased to support them in the good work they are providing to thousands of low-income individuals in the area," said David Strahl, director of external affairs for AT&T Illinois.
"We are very grateful to have AT&T as a partner," said Bruce Strom, executive director of Administer Justice. "This grant will help us implement an innovative new system which combines data, communication and reporting features to significantly advance the ability to provide access to justice for our low-income client service organization. We are honored that our project was selected for the grant."
More than 100 volunteer attorneys along with 150 other volunteers donated thousands of hours to Administer Justice assisting more than 2,500 individuals this year.
"The grant that AT&T is providing to Administer Justice will help this wonderful organization serve those in need more efficiently and effectively thanks to AT&T's technology investment," said state Rep. Ruth Munson. "By working together, we can use state-of-the art technology to dramatically improve lives in very meaningful ways. AT&T has been an excellent corporate citizen, and we look forward to continued partnerships."
The AT&T Excelerator program provides technology access to organizations working to strengthen under-served communities. AT&T Excelerator grants help non-profits integrate technology into operations and community outreach.
In 2006, AT&T Inc. and the AT&T Foundation contributed more than $101 million to nonprofit organizations across the country.
"I am proud to use my skills to benefit the excellent work of Administer Justice and I am grateful for the support of AT&T in making this project a reality," said Scott McNamara, president of Proof of Design Inc. and the creator of the new online technology system called Justice Center Online.
The system is expected to be operational before the end of the year.
