Briefs: City, union dispute ends
St. Charles aldermen this week unanimously approved changes to the way firefighters are promoted, ending a months-long dispute with the firefighters' union. The deal allows two assistant chief positions to be filled through negotiations, and three battalion chiefs to be appointed by the city. The compromise came after the union cried foul over the city filling all assistant chief positions away from the bargaining table. It was the last remaining dispute from contract negotiations dating to April.
