Last week to visit downtown market

The "inside edition" of the Downtown Neighborhood Association's Harvest Market will wrap up this Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Gasthaus Zur Linde.

Harvest Market has been a venue for farmers and various natural niches to offer their products to employees and residents in the Elgin community. Vendors that will be present are Gloria's Gourmet Meats and Eggs, the Breadsmith with a variety of sweet and wholesome breads, and more.

Gasthaus Zur Linde is at 15 N. Grove Ave., less than a block from the U.S. Post Office, and around the corner from the outdoor Harvest Market that was in the Civic parking lot this past year. For details, call the Downtown Neighborhood Association at (847) 488-1456 or visit www.downtownelgin.org.

ECC schedules Founders' Brunch

The Elgin Community College Foundation will hold its annual Founders' Brunch from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Jan. 20 in the Visual and Performing Arts Center, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin. The champagne reception begins at 11:30 a.m. followed by the brunch at noon.

This annual event, held the first or second Sunday in January, commemorates the founding of the college in 1949. It is a mid-day brunch with an upscale menu that begins with a champagne reception and includes entertainment and raffles for gifts and prizes. Time is also set aside to bestow awards and recognitions. Funds raised provide financial support to the students and instructional programs of ECC.

Sign up now for Elgin volleyball

Open registration for the Elgin Parks and Recreation Department's Adult Volleyball Leagues is now under way.

Co-rec competitive and recreational leagues will be held on Tuesday nights. All games are held at The Centre of Elgin, 100 Symphony Way.

The league fee is $430 per team and is based on a minimum of ten games.

Additional fees include a $50 forfeit fee (paid by credit card) and non-resident fees.

The registration deadline is Jan. 11. Registration for the adult volleyball leagues will be taken at The Centre of Elgin, 100 Symphony Way, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays.
