Smalley Steel Ring purchases Spirolox

LAKE ZURICH -- Smalley Steel Ring Co. announced the purchase of Spirolox Inc. from the Kaydon Corp. Starting Monday, Spirolox customers will be served by the Smalley sales and technical support teams. Smalley, a maker of spiral retaining rings, snap rings and wave springs, offers thousands of configurations and in most cases can provide special orders in as little as one to two weeks. The company's world headquarters and manufacturing facility are in Lake Zurich.

Fortune Brands competes wine sale

DEERFIELD -- Fortune Brands Inc. completed the previously announced sale of its U.S. wine business to Constellation Brands. The price was $885 million. Coupled with the sale earlier this year of two wine brands to E. & J. Gallo Winery, Fortune Brands has realized total consideration for its wine unit well in excess of $900 million. Norm Wesley, chairman and chief executive officer of Fortune Brands, said the sale of the wine brands will help enhance the returns in premium spirits business.
