Mom, infant die in fire on Chicago's South Side
Firefighters say two people are dead after a fire engulfed a two-story house on Chicago's South Side.
Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford says a 17-year-old woman and an infant weren't able to escape the extra-alarm fire that began early Monday morning.
He says fierce flames prevented rescuers from going inside to get the two out.
About eight other people escaped the blaze that started just before 5 a.m.
The cause of the fire is under investigation and authorities aren't sure if there were smoke detectors in home.
