Fire district's tax request questioned
The Long Grove Fire Protection District wants to increase our real estate taxes 13.89 percent. They state that for 2006, the real estate taxes were $3,248,683 and now they want $3.7 million.
It is interesting to note that for 2006, their total revenue was $3,603,731 and their total expenditures were $2,307,935, or $1,295,796 less than their income. In addition, they have $5,008,652 in reserve. If anything, they should reduce taxes, not increase them.
How do the fire district trustees justify a tax increase?
