10 years for Palatine man who tried to kill his wife
A Palatine man was sentenced to 10 years in prison Friday after he admitted stabbing his wife multiple times with a kitchen knife.
David Aguilar, 32, of 1712 N. Rose Ave., pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree murder. The crime could have put him behind bars for 30 years.
Cook County Judge James Etchingham also sentenced Aguilar to another five years in prison -- to be served concurrently -- for his guilty plea to a related charge of aggravated domestic battery. Two other charges of aggravated battery were dismissed.
Aguilar, who officials said has a 2003 conviction on federal drug charges, will receive credit for the 343 days he's already served in jail.
Police said he and his wife were arguing at their home on Jan. 5 when she threatened to call 911.
Aguilar, who prosecutors said had smoked cocaine, became enraged and stabbed the woman multiple times in the neck, torso, face and chest, police said. Prosecutors said the victim required surgery but has since recovered.
