Rollins is no place for snowmobilers
I agree with Beau Schaefer's comment that motorized vehicles would be disturbing to the short-eared owl at Rollins Savanna Forest Preserve (Dec. 8 article).
And, as a Lake County taxpayer, I would like to express my support for Jim Anderson's concern over the fate of both the short-eared owl and the northern harrier habitat at Rollins Savanna vis-a-vis snowmobiling.
In short, the fact is that off-road motorized vehicles destroy wildlife habitat. And, regardless of the duration of the snowmobiling season and/or the connection of Rollins Savanna with other locations in the forest preserve system, snowmobiling is noisy, polluting, and incompatible with wildlife preservation.
I believe that wildlife preservation should trump snowmobile club precedence in Rollins Savanna.
