Briefs: Grainger reports November sales up

METTAWA -- W.W. Grainger Inc.'s November sales grew 10 percent compared to last year, which includes a 2 percentage point benefit from foreign currency. Grainger, with 2006 sales of $5.9 billion, is a supplier of facilities maintenance products serving businesses and institutions in Canada, China, Mexico and the United States.

FDA committee supports new drug

DEERFIELD -- Cardiome Pharma Corp. and its co-development partner Astellas Pharma U.S. Inc. announced the Cardiovascular and Renal Drugs Advisory Committee of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has recommended approval of kynapid, the intravenous formulation of vernakalant hydrochloride, an experimental new drug for rapid conversion of acute atrial fibrillation. If approved, it will be the first new drug therapy for the conversion of atrial fibrillation in eight years.

Tricoci salon marks fifth anniversary

Pizzeria helps raise money for wrestlers

CRYSTAL LAKE -- Georgio's Chicago Pizzeria and Pub in Crystal Lake recently teamed up with the Wolves Wrestling Club to raise more than $10,000 for the youth organization. Georgio's sold the wrestling club frozen pizzas at a discount and club members sold the pizzas at Georgio's regular price.

New dance studio celebrates opening

HAMPSHIRE -- The Hampshire Area Chamber of Commerce members held a ribbon-cutting for Studio A, 122 Washington Ave. April and Vince Slapa own and operate the dance studio. The 4,400-square-foot location features multiple studios, a locker room and lobby area. The business started in a one-room studio just over two years ago.

Inland Real Estate sees rise in auctions

OAK BROOK -- Inland Real Estate Auctions Inc. has completed its $30 million Chicago area fall auction series, reflecting an increase in auctions across all property types and demonstrating an industry-wide 40 percent increase in the use of auctions in the last three years, as tracked by the National Auctioneers Association. Inland Real Estate Auctions has already completed a busy fall season and has more than 120 properties on the docket for the first quarter of 2008, the company said Wednesday.

Krusinski finishes restaurant remodel

OAK BROOK -- Krusinski Construction Co., Oak Brook, completed interior renovations for Topa Tavern & Grill in Elk Grove Village. Krusinski began work in June on the restaurant. The building, which previously housed Cucina Roma, was vacant for the last two years. The 10,000-square-foot restaurant has seating capacity for about 240 people. Krusinski demolished several walls, the existing bar, added new flooring and ceilings and replaced all kitchen appliances. The exterior received new awnings and signs.
