First Campton Hills election too bizarre?

The village of Campton Hills has been a hotbed of political activity since the incorporation of the new village in April. This includes the creation of the Free Us from Campton Hills PAC political action committee (PAC).

This group has sent out leaflets, petitioners and yard signs to stress the importance of their cause. The question is where they were on April 17, when the question of incorporation was narrowly accepted by citizens living in Campton and Plato townships?

Whether their absence from the political process before April was apathy or sheer lack of will, they are certainly motivated now. Free Us from Campton Hills PAC has laid out a new slate of candidates for the Feb. 5 election of Campton Hills officials.

Many would believe that this group would be a responsible choice for their government, seeing that they are opposed to large government and high taxes, possibly stemming from the creation of the village.

However, these candidates are not simply seeking to be fiscally responsible or maintaining limited government. They are seeking the dissolution of the village they seek to serve.

Where in American history have we ever seen an election so bizarre that several of the candidates seeking office would do away with the very government they were elected to serve?
