Strikers U18 claim Metro United title
The Fox Valley Strikers U18 girls soccer team finished the last regular season tournament with a championship at the Metro United Tournament in Collinsville Nov. 3-4.
The Strikers won the championship game 4-0, capping a 10-year run that saw the team consistently ranked in the top tier of teams in Illinois.
Many of these players have been together since third grade and have traveled across the country, finding success in the championships of the CASL Shootout in Raleigh, the Greensboro Labor Day Tournament, the Palatine Celtic Cup, the Volvo Invitational, Sporting FC Tournament in Peoria and the Jr. Irish Invitational in South Bend.
They were also the A Division IWSL Champions for four consecutive seasons, before joining the Midwest Regional League during high school. Eight Strikers were part of the Illinois State ODP team.
The Strikers were coached by Amy Winslow for the past two seasons. Previous coaches included Greg Fink, Pat Feulner and Jim Marion, as well as parent assistants Fred Ward, Mike Bartindale and Kevin Conrad.
