• Stephanie Walsh, assistant professor of criminal justice at Aurora University, was among presenters at the American Society of Criminology national conference at Atlanta, Ga. in November.

Walsh gave two presentations, "Perceptions of Law Enforcement Administrators Regarding the Detection and Prosecution of Cyber-Criminals" and "Cheating Online: Results of Self-Report Surveys of Academic Dishonesty Among Undergraduates in Online Courses." She also chaired a panel session and served as a panelist for two sessions.

• Tony Tinerella of North Aurora was honored with Marmion Academy's Father Alcuin Deck Distinguished Service Award for the first semester of the 2007-08 academic year.

Tinerella is a 1984 graduate of Marmion. He returned to the academy in 1990 as an instructor in the science department and as a baseball coach. He has been the dean of students since 2001. The award is presented in recognition of outstanding contributions and faithful service to Marmion Academy and in gratitude for exemplifying a spirit of charity and dedication.

• Kay L. Harbaugh of St. Charles has been honored as the recipient of the Bartel Leadership Excellence Award presented by the Delnor Health Care Foundation.

Harbaugh has a distinguished career in nursing.

Her association with Delnor began in 1977 when she joined the Delnor Auxiliary. Harbaugh's activities with the auxiliary include charity ball committee chairperson twice, historical chair, antique chair, president-elect, president and Hi-Hat House liaison. Harbaugh was also active on the board of directors.

• John Diederich of Aurora, Christine Sobek of Geneva and Joseph Vecchiolla of St. Charles recently joined the Marmion Academy board of trustees.

Diederich, Marmion class of 1987, is a third generation Marmion graduate. He is the senior vice president and chief operating officer of Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora.

Sobek is the president of Waubonsee Community College. She and husband, Paul Anderson, have three children, the eldest, is a sophomore at Marmion. Sobek will serve on the finance committee

Vecchiolla is the managing director of 3 Seasons Capital of St. Charles. He and wife Cory are members of the Abbot Marmion Society. They have three sons, the youngest, is a sophomore at Marmion. Vecchiolla will also serve on the finance committee.

• West Aurora High School teacher Tom Kraus has successfully completed the voluntary quest to measure up against the highest and most rigorous expectations set by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.

Kraus, who teaches physical education and driver's education, went through a rigorous, yearlong process during which he had to master the most effective teaching practices in his field, including student performance, student testing and parent involvement.

• Donna S. Cooper of Batavia has been named president of the Dreyer Medical Clinic. Cooper brings 11 years of health care experience, ranging from health care plans and hospitals to large multi-specialty group practices.

Cooper began her career as a tax consultant with Arthur Andersen in Chicago. She spent two years with John Deere Health Care in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She then became vice president of payor and provider relations for St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. In 1999, she joined the Physicians' Clinic of Iowa in Cedar Rapids where she worked as their chief financial officer before becoming chief executive officer.
