ACC girls fall to Indian Creek

Despite Nydia Griffin's 16-point effort, the Aurora Central Catholic girls basketball team fell to Indian Creek 60-51 in nonconference action Monday in Aurora.

"She had an excellent game," ACC coach Fay Griffin said. "We just didn't capitalize on our opportunities."

ACC (1-10) found itself down 20-6 after the first quarter, but came back to outscore Indian Creek 17-10 in the second.

With around four minutes left in the game, the Chargers cut it to 4, but turned the ball over.

"I thought we competed," coach Griffin said. "We just couldn't get over the hump."

This was the highest scoring game the Chargers have posted all season. In addition to Griffin, ACC was led by Stephanie Pogwizd and Sonya Steder, who each tallied 9 points.

Genoa-Kingston 63, Mooseheart 37:ŒCoach Bryan Miller didn't have much voice left at the end of Monday's Mooseheart-Genoa-Kingston girls basketball game.

The Ramblers were close with Genoa-Kingston until late in the second quarter. At that point, the Cogs turned a 25-20 game into a 32-20 halftime margin. In the blink of an eye in the second half, the lead was 20 points and the game was never again competitive.

Genoa-Kingston (4-7) won this Genoa-Kingston Holiday Tournament opener 63-37 over Mooseheart (4-7).

"We just never put a run together," Miller said. "Our defense failed us big-time tonight, giving up that many points. It kind of limited our opportunities to fastbreak."

Faced with Mooseheart's quickness, Genoa-Kingston played a zone, and the Ramblers were unable to shoot the Cogs back into a man-to-man situation.

Molly Meier led Genoa-Kingston with 22 points while Lauren Strohmeier added 20 points.
