What's up with the county taxes?

This is an open letter to Mr. Michael S. Talbett, vice-chairman of the Lake County Board. I think it's a wonderful idea to allow the property owners to be able to check their property tax assessments against their neighbors.

What I don't understand is where you and the assessors have been the last six months to a year. I would like you to explain to me and the rest of the property owners how the value of our homes has dropped 4 percent and more yet you increase our taxes?

Buying in Lake county is like being half owner in a gold mine. The county gets the gold and the home owner get the shaft. Maybe it's time for the Herald to look into this and give the citizens a breakdown on the drop in property values and the increase in taxes. A good look at the county spending would be in order. Are they over staffed, spending wisely and paying at an inflated or a competitive level?
