Batavia Women in Business: The next luncheon will be on Tuesday at Eagle Brook Country Club. Both businessmen and women in the Tri-Cities area are welcome to attend.

The Batavia Women in Business sponsor two philanthropy events each year.

During the holiday season, the organization is collecting new, unwrapped toys and gift cards to donate to the Batavia ACCESS Toy Drive. Please bring your donations to the luncheon.

The luncheon cost is $25 for Batavia Chamber of Commerce members, $30 for

The Fox Valley Newcomers and Neighbors: The group is celebrating the holidays from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the St. Charles Country Club, 1250 Country Club Road in St. Charles. The program features "Four For Fun," a quartet of Barbershop singers and members of the Riverside Chorus of the Sweet Adeline's International, who will perform holiday songs. The League of Women Voters of Geneva, St. Charles and Batavia: A Holiday Song Festival and fundraiser is on Dec. 16 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Villa Verone Restorante Italiano, 416 Hamilton Street, Geneva. The benefit includes complimentary appetizers with holiday music led by Rosemary Schroeder. Admission donation is $25 per person which benefits the League of Women Voters of Illinois Education Fund and is tax deductible. Proceeds help the local Leagues to continue to offer non-partisan community activities such as voter service, candidates' events and community forums. Aurora Area Job Club: The group was created by Waubonsee Community College and the Aurora Public Library to help people manage their careers and find meaningful employment.

Upcoming sessions include: "Being Your Own Boss: Is Self-employment Right for Me?" Jan. 10; and "Stories from the Trenches: A Job Seeker Shares his Success Story" Jan. 28.

Each meeting includes a strategy session or a guest speaker, followed by a networking breakout session and refreshments. Guest speakers, including local employers, will give updates on business trends and what employers are looking for in candidates.

The meetings are held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the downtown Aurora Public Library, 1 E. Benton Street.

Batavia Plain Dirt Gardeners: Frances Manos, author of "Midwest Cottage Gardening," will be featured at the next meeting. There will be a 6:45 p.m. business meeting and 7:30 p.m. presentation Jan. 15 in the Batavia Public Library Meeting room on how to create that wonderful and popular cottage style with plants that really work in the area. The Elias Kent Kane Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the Revolution: A meeting is at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Batavia Public Library, 10 S. Batavia Ave., Batavia. International Folk Dancing: Fermilab International Folk Dancing meets at 7:30 p.m. every Thursday, with teaching and dances for children, and continuing with more advanced teaching and requests. Newcomers are always welcome; no partners are needed.

Scottish country dancing meets every Tuesday from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Newcomers are welcome and all dances are taught or walked through. One need not come with a partner.

English country dancing at Fermilab will continue to meet one Sunday afternoon, from 2 to 5 p.m. each month; the first Sunday of the month through the fall and winter. The group also welcomes newcomers and often holds a potluck supper following dancing.

NARFE: The National Active and Retired Federal Employees local chapter 2181 will hold its annual holiday luncheon at noon Dec. 11. This will be in place of the December meeting.

Once again it is at the Grand Victoria restaurant adjacent to the riverboat. The address is 250 S. Grove, Elgin. The lunch buffet cost is $10.71. The cost is $9.71 for seniors over age 65.

173rd Airborne Brigade Association: Chapter VI-Elite Forces, 173rd Airborne Brigade Association meets at 8 p.m. the second Friday of the month at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1307, 1601 Weld Road in Elgin.
