Winter Weather Advisory issued as ice storm moves into area
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for DuPage, Kane, McHenry and Lake counties, as well as other parts of northern Illinois, until 6 p.m. Areas of drizzle, freezing drizzle, sleet and freezing rain will make travel potentially hazardous, according to officials.
Icy weather has caused delays and canceled flights at Chicago's O'Hare Airport Sunday.
As of 12:45 p.m., flights were delayed between 30 and 45 minutes at O'Hare, City Department of Aviation Spokeswoman Karen Pride said.
Pride said there were more than 200 canceled flights.
This compared with one week ago Saturday, when there were 400 canceled flights, she said.
There were no delays at Midway Airport, Pride said, although there were three cancellations from Kansas City, due to weather there.
Pride had some advice for travelers.
"Passengers should call ahead and check the status of flights and take care on the roadways and try to get there at least two hours before the flight is scheduled."
