Carpentersville teen killed in Algonquin Road crash
A Carpentersville teenager died in an accident early Saturday morning after police said the car he was driving crossed into oncoming traffic and hit another car head-on.
Edgar Rico, 17, was driving a green Mercury Cougar east on Route 62 near Autumn Trail when he crossed the center line and hit a black Nissan Sentra, according to reports from both the Kane County coroner's office and the Barrington Hills police.
Rico was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:05 a.m., according to Kane County Coroner Charles West.
The two occupants of the Nissan, a 37-year-old Lake in the Hills man and a 26-year-old Addison woman, were treated at Sherman Hospital in Elgin for non-life-threatening injuries, police said. Officials did not release the names of the injured man and woman.
Rico, of 1629 Seminole Lane in Carpentersville, was wearing his seat belt, and the airbag in the car deployed, according to West. Rico did not have a valid driver's license, West said.
Rico died of massive trauma to his head, neck and chest, West said. Toxicology tests will be conducted to determine if alcohol or drugs played a part in the accident, the coroner said.
No funeral information was available for Rico as of Saturday night.
Investigations by police and the coroner's office continue.
