Who's smarter -- us or our furniture?
The Campton Smart Console Table from Pottery Barn shows what furniture can do these days.
It's red, it looks like an Asian antique. And it could just be smarter than we are.
It has six small drawers across the front. And one of them opens to show five spots to plug in cell phones and other chargeables.
The price is $999.
There are a few other pieces in the Campton style, and the armoire also comes in mocha.
But the console table got the brains of the family. It is the only "smart" piece.
It is available only online and via catalog.

Star power comes to your child's room
Isn't it great when they're still young enough to love gifts that aren't very expensive?
Delta has a line of furniture and accessories dedicated to "High School Musical" or Hanna Montana.
The fabric headboard at $60 is the most expensive.
This end table -- available in either version -- is $40.
Other choices are a director's chair for $30 and a bentwood chair for $40.
Décor in a Box is seven pieces, including three shelves, priced at $40.
The items are available at Toys "R" Us. For more information, visit deltachildrensproducts.com.
Bigger projects can wait till next year
If you take time to sit down with a magazine at this time of year, it had better have ideas either for gifts or decorating.
Shelter magazines seem to do that, and they also throw in stories about fabulous houses decorated for Christmas. Inspiration for next year?
Domino focuses on Scandinavian and French design and gifts.
The Scandinavian palette is very muted. Pine cones and angels of straw and birch bark wreaths are examples.
And how about a centerpiece of pheasant and guinea-hen features wrapped with a ribbon for a touch of French Noel?
Country Home features ideas with glass ornaments. For example, take a sticky decal monogram from the scrapbooking aisle, put it on a plain ornament, add ribbon and you have a classy place card gift for your guests.
Country Living shows designs for handmade wreaths. One is pine cones painted to match your decor, another winter scarves wrapped around a foam base. The one that seems most difficult calls for making flowers from old newspapers. It ends up looking terrific. Honest.
Another project with a limited palette involves decorating everything from stockings to wrapping paper and pillows with snowflakes. The beaded snowflakes are particularly charming.
