Palatine condo 'pet friendly'

It's a dog's world as more and more housing developments in the Chicago area are catering to dog lovers.

At The Woods at Countryside, a $105-million condominium conversion in northwest suburban Palatine, a fenced, "Pet Friendly Area" measures 6,000 square feet -- or the size of two tennis courts.

In May, builders host annual awards for 'Best Dressed Pet'. One-third of the condo owners have pets, including dogs, cats, birds and even a ferret.

The development is nestled in landscaped courtyards on 52 acres of rolling property, next to the 1,800-acre Deer Grove forest preserves.

The community features a clubhouse, outdoor swimming pool, kiddie pool, fitness center and tennis court. Monthly assessment fees range from $125 to $175.

The condominiums are clustered in 18 two-story garden-style buildings on landscaped grounds. One-bedroom and 2-bedroom garden-style floor plans with 1 or 2 baths and 735 to 1,100 square feet of living space range in price from $149,900 to $189, 900.

All residences feature spacious living rooms with adjoining private terrace, and open, eat-in kitchens finished with a full appliance package, Wojtas said.

The developers currently are offering a $10,000 grand opening cash incentive. The incentive is cash-back to the buyer at closing, and the developer pays the real estate broker an additional 2.5 percent commission.

The Woods at Countryside is located at 975 Sterling Avenue on the far northwest side of Palatine. Entry to the community is west of Quentin Road and north of U.S. 14.

A sales center and four professionally furnished model condominiums are on display at 1010 Sterling Ave. from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

At The Huron, a 42-unit luxury boutique condominium high-rise, dog lovers and their pooches will enjoy a heated "doggy run," tucked away like a private pet condo.

The Huron is located at 4 E. Huron Street, two blocks west of Michigan Avenue's "Magnificent Mile."

Other perks include a heated garage with deeded parking spaces, and secure indoor bicycle storage.

The 28-story Huron is planned as a very exclusive, signature building designed with a distinctive contemporary architecture in the highly desired locale, on the northeast corner of Huron and State streets overlooking Holy Name Cathedral.

Designed by the architectural firm of Solomon Cordwell Buenz, the one-of-kind condominium high-rise will feature only 42 residences -- only one, two or three units per floor -- all with spacious terraces. There also will be two penthouses, plus indoor parking for 74 cars.

Base prices at The Huron range from $992,000 to $4.86 million for residences with 1,676 to 5,819 square feet of space. Thirty percent of the units already have gone from reservations to the contract stage since October 29.

On the top floor of the building is a private health club complete with steam room, sauna, and changing rooms, plus a year round pool and deck surrounded by fabulous views.

The rooftop boasts a Zen contemplation garden, grills for cooking out, hammocks and a hot tub where you can watch the sunset from the heart of the city.
