Geneva 79, DeKalb 56
The Geneva boys basketball team sure likes to shoot 3-pointers.
Four of the Vikings starters combined for 11 treys in their 79-56 rout over DeKalb in Western Sun Conference action at Geneva Friday.
"If we have space, yes we do (like shooting 3-pointers)," Geneva coach Tim Pease said. "It's the spacing and it's the ball movement. We tell the boys all the time, the shooting part is the easiest, it's what your teammates are doing to get you that look."
"They shot the ball well," DeKalb coach David Rohlman added of Geneva's long-distance shooting starters. "I thought they all played well. What I really think they do well is share the basketball and move without the ball. They all seem to be working together."
Chris Jordan set the tone for the Vikings early, as he scored the first 8 points of the game, which included a pair of back-to-back 3-pointers. His hot shooting allowed Geneva to lead 17-7 after the first quarter, where he missed just one shot and finished with 12 of his 19 points.
"Chris can make baskets for us," Pease said. "He obviously felt good there in the beginning, and that certainly helped our start."
"During warm-ups, I was feeling it," Jordan added. "I got the open look and my teammates found me."
DeKalb (2-5, 1-2) posted a better second-quarter effort and was only outscored 16-14, but the Vikings (6-2, 2-1) led 33-21 at the break.
In the third, three Vikings went off -- Alex Turnowchyk, Jeremy D'Amico and Jordan, once again.
Turnowchyk caught fire and scored 15 of his 17 total points in the third, with 4 treys and a field goal. He led all long-distance shooters with 5 threes to go with his 7 rebounds.
Jordan and D'Amico each scored 7 apiece in the third, where the Vikings outscored the Barbs, 28-16. D'Amico finished with 15 points, 6 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 blocks.
Another big force for Geneva was Max Cary. The senior didn't necessarily stand out in one quarter, but spread his 19-point effort throughout the entire game. The Vikings took their largest lead of the game, 74-45, after a pair of his free throws with 4 minutes left in the game.
DeKalb (2-5, 1-2) was led by its force in the middle, 6-foot-10 sophomore Jordan Threloff. He finished with 16 points, 10 rebounds and 5 blocked shots.
