Ryan story exposes need to help
Jim and Marie Ryan's poignant article (Nov. 27), re the suicide of their son, Patrick, was a courageous act to let your readers know the dire seriousness of anyone suffering with bipolar disorder -- manic depression.
Mental illness -- a no-fault disease -- strikes people of all ages and is known to be a malfunctioning of the brain. We at NAMI Northwest Suburban are a non-profit self-help organization of concerned families and friends.
No individual or family member should ever feel that he is alone. Our mission is to eradicate mental illness and to improve the qualify of life of those who suffer.
We offer a monthly support group meeting, seven monthly educational meetings on relevant topics, encourage advocacy and offer hope to families and their afflicted loved ones.
