Tour four of Geneva's churches during steeple walk
The Geneva Forum for Arts and Education presents its fourth annual steeple walk Sunday at four historic downtown churches.
Guests can enjoy a 30-minute concert of seasonal music at each church, walking from one to the next in succession. It's a great opportunity to see the sanctuaries of these familiar churches and reflect on the season.
Two tours are offered, with the first beginning at 2 p.m. and the second at 3 p.m. Completing the tours and hearing all four concerts takes three hours.
"It will be a great segue into the holiday season, with great performances" said Margie Nagaitsev, a volunteer with the Geneva forum. "We're excited."
Nagaitsev said the steeple walk was sold out the first year it was offered, so a second tour was added this year.
The tours begin at St. Mark's Episcopal Church at 320 Franklin St. where Susan Conant will play the lute and Irish whistle and Conan Mackey will play the electric guitar. They will present a program of traditional Celtic and European dance tunes.
Then it's on to Geneva Lutheran Church at 301 S. Third St. to hear the Fox Valley Children's chorus perform traditional carols.
Dave Erickson will play the mandolin and Maro Kawabata performs on guitar as they present a concert of sacred and secular Christmas music at First Church of Christ Scientist, 111 S. Second St.
The tour concludes with vocalist Margaret Carlson, with Scott Stevenson on piano and Randy Henry on bass, performing sacred and secular music at the Unitarian Universalist Society of Geneva, 102 S. Second St.
Tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for children.
