Plenty of chances in Palatine to meet Santa this year
Are you hoping to meet up with a certain jolly, rather rotund elf here in Palatine -- so your little ones can whisper their Christmas wishes to him?
Well, I've heard from some reliable sources that St. Nick will be putting in some appearances in Palatine.
Salt Creek Rural Park District will host Breakfast with Santa from 9 to 10:45 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Dec. 15 at the Twin Lakes Clubhouse, 1200 E. Twin Lakes Drive.
Registration deadline is Wednesday or until filled. Cost is $12 for residents and $10 for nonresidents and $4 for children ages 2 and younger. For information, call the park district at (847) 259-6890.
Santa is also visiting the Buehler YMCA for lunch Saturday; registration for that event has passed, however.
The Palatine Concert Band will perform tonight at 7 p.m. at Cutting Hall, 150 E. Wood St., Palatine. The concert will feature holiday favorites, a sing-along and a visit from Santa. Admission is $8 for adults, $5 for students and seniors. Call (847) 991-2731 or visit the Web site, palconband.org.
Or maybe you would just like to mail a letter to Santa. There will be a special mailbox at Rose Park, 530 S. Williams Ave., Palatine, through Dec. 14. Include the child's name and address so Santa can write back.
In addition, the Jaycees are sponsoring a Santa's Mailbox along with their annual Christmas tree sale. Children can mail a letter to Santa from a mailbox on the Christmas tree lot, in the Aquatic Center parking lot on Palatine Road just west of Northwest Highway. Santa will respond to any letter dropped in the box before Dec. 15. Include a return address on the envelope.
Of course, if you are in need of a Christmas tree, the Jaycees have a wide selection. The sale will run through Dec. 15. Sale hours will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday; 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.
Holiday music: The Palatine Children's Chorus will perform its holiday concert at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday at Cutting Hall. Tickets cost $7 for adults and $5 for students and seniors. On Sunday, the park district's adult choir, Allegro, will present its holiday concert at 7 p.m. at Cutting Hall. Tickets cost $7.
