NCC radio station collecting toys
North Central College's student-run radio station, WONC-FM 89.1, is collecting nonperishable food items and toys for the Humanitarian Service Project
The project, a nonprofit organization based in Carol Stream, helps meet the needs of senior citizens and children facing poverty in DuPage and Kane counties.
Each year, WONC student broadcasters choose a nonprofit organization to serve and this year selected the Humanitarian Service Project because of its success and commitment to alleviating poverty.
In the past, WONC has helped local food pantries and the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation.
Nonperishable food items and new or gently-used toys may be dropped off at WONC in Oliver Hall, 232 E. Chicago Ave., on the North Central College campus in Naperville. Items can be placed inside the door and in the front room through Dec. 14.
"Because WONC is a nonprofit radio station, we truly appreciate receiving support and donations from others," WONC public affairs director Carrie Gerdes said in a statement.
"Doing service projects like this at Christmas and throughout the year is one way we can give back to the community."
WONC broadcasters will deliver the collected food and toys to Humanitarian Service Project Dec. 15.
