Chicago cops bust open-air drug market

Chicago police say they have arrested 11 alleged gang members and shut down an open-air drug market in the city's West Pullman neighborhood that also was a pipeline to suburban Calumet Park.

The 11 suspects arrested Wednesday have been charged with drug conspiracy and seven for alleged delivery of a controlled substance. Police say they are seeking the arrest of six more suspects.

Police say investigators for five months targeted an area known as "Trigger Town" because of several homicides and shootings that have taken place in the last year.

Police said Gangster Disciple street gang members ran the drug operation. Its leader, identified as William Faulkner, was murdered in a domestic dispute at the start of the probe.

Police say the drug market was the 31st shut down by the department this year.
