Cited was Spandikow's dedication to expanding programming, providing cooperative events/services with other park districts, increasing revenues while reducing expenses, and most importantly, improving staff training. Her attention to training and retraining staff prepared them this year, when they responded to a life-threatening situation in the racquetball court, resulting in the saving of a life.
Superintendent of revenue facilities Steven Karoliussen said, "Once in a great while you find that exceptional employee who has a positive attitude, is a team player, has a 'can do' spirit, a natural love for their job, never complains about the long hours, and understands that they are here to provide the finest in programs and services to our residents. This is why Karen is so deserving of this award."
