16-year-olds accused of Buffalo Grove car, home burglaries
Two 16-year-olds have been arrested in a rash of burglaries on the western edge of Buffalo Grove.
Police believe the teens also might be involved in a string of car and residential break-ins in a portion of Buffalo Grove surrounded by Arlington Heights and Lake-Cook roads and Route 83.
One 16-year-old was arrested in a residential burglary that occurred Nov. 20 on the 1000 block of Aspen Drive. Police said the juvenile told them he entered the house through an unlocked exterior door and took small electronic items.
Another 16-year-old was arrested on two counts of burglary to motor vehicle that occurred Nov. 29 on the 1000 block of Ivy Hall Lane.
He told police he took a calculator, a GPS unit and a radar detector from two unlocked cars, authorities said.
Both will be petitioned to Lake County juvenile court.
Police believe the two might be responsible for as many as a dozen other car burglaries in the area.
"We've had a fair amount (of break-ins) in this area," police Cmdr. Steve Husak said. "We think they're responsible for the majority of them."
