Incorporation a ploy and nothing's free

In response to all the people of Campton Township who feel they need to add another level of government to our lives.

I was born in Campton Township in 1935 and lived here all my life. I have welcomed thousands of newcomers into the township over the years.

Of course, there are a few maybe I shouldn't have welcomed, but they said they wanted to have the openness of the country and breathe fresh country air. After the first few came, I heard "Stop, stop, it's too crowded, don't let any more in."

Over and over through the years that refrain has been heard. So where do we go from here? I know, let's blame the developers, those money-grabbing developers.

I live in Arbor Creek. My father moved onto the farm that is now Arbor Creek in 1936. I know the land like the back of my hand and loved the openness and clean air. But times were changing and my family of four brothers and a sister approached B & B and asked them to advise us and to help subdivide the farm.

I repeat, we approached B & B. They, in my opinion, did a great job and built a beautiful subdivision and feel they treated us fairly and honestly. All this talk about greedy developers does not sit well with me.

I would like to know how many of the many subdivisions in Campton Township were developed at the behest of the actual owner of the land -- or was stolen in some underhanded manner. Come on, get real, you know the owners wanted to subdivide.

As for the misinformation being thrown around by the dissenters, "no new taxes" is being heard from Campton Hills to Washington, D.C.. Do you believe all of it? You know somebody has to pay for the services we receive.

I think we all heard the words from our newly appointed leaders of Campton Hills: "If they want it, they'll have to pay for it." So how? Fees, fees, fees. I suppose fees are not taxes, but my wallet is already feeling lighter.

Campton Hills is nothing but a grand ploy to stop Elgin from getting further into Campton Township. Nothing more, nothing less. All this talk about self-rule will certainly not be free.

I would urge all of the Campton Hills residents to sign the petitions to dissolve or disconnect as soon as possible. We need to be certain our views are heard loud and clear.
