Elgin councilman to discuss new book he's written at library
Elgin City Councilman Mike Powers will discuss his new book, "All-American Stories: Elgin Myths and Memories," from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Community Room A of the Gail Borden Public Library, 270 N. Grove Ave., Elgin.
In the book, Powers covers a number of local stories including tales of top sport stars from the past such as Rich Hopkins, David Powers and Flynn Robinson from Elgin High School.
"Mike's book is an often-poignant portrait of an earlier Elgin. The author came of age during the 1960s and '70s. Mike's memories are an imaginative treasure to those who hold Elgin near and dear to their hearts," said George Rawlinson, owner of State Street Publishing, the firm that is publishing "Memories."
