Mundelein rallies to tip Libertyville
Mundelein's high-scoring boys basketball team was held in check by host Libertyville, but the Mustangs found a way to pull out the win.
Mundelein prevailed 57-51 Tuesday night in the North Suburban Lake Division game, wiping out a 41-36 deficit heading into the fourth quarter.
Senior wing Navjot Singh scored 7 of his game-high 16 points in the final quarter, while sophomore guard Ben Brust netted 6 of his 10.
Mundelein (5-1, 1-0) also got double-digit scoring from senior guards Kevin Blackowicz (13 points) and Andy Rochon (12).
Libertyville (2-3, 0-2) was led in scoring by 6-foot-6 junior center Jeremy Letchford with 15 points. Senior guard Joey Aiello added 12.
N. Chicago 94, Lakes 86: The second quarter was the difference, as the Eagles dropped their North Suburban Prairie Division opener.
North Chicago outscored Lakes 27-13 in the second quarter, shooting 50 percent from the floor and hitting four 3-pointers. Lakes (1-4) shot only 22 percent in the quarter and fell behind by as many as 23 points late in the third.
Kevin Guirand scored 30 points for the Eagles, while Trey Williams added 16. Dan Kalb and Kevin Rice each had 10.
Z-B 83, Lake Zurich 50: Connor Mooney's season-high 24 points couldn't prevent the Bears from dropping their second straight in North Suburban Lake Division action.
Lake Zurich (4-2, 0-2) also got 8 points and 5 rebounds from Brandon Kunz.
Jacobs 84, Grayslake N. 46: Tony Herman had 13 points for the Knights (2-4).
Girls basketball
Wheeling 45, Grant 39: The visiting Wildcats pulled out the nonconference game, overcoming a one-point deficit with about two minutes left.
Heather Ruetsche and Jamie Swanson scored 14 and 11 points, respectively, for Grant (6-2), which had its five-game winning streak snapped.
The Bulldogs committed 23 turnovers in the loss.
"It was a very good game," coach Tom Oeffling said. "We'll learn from this.'
