Briefs: Computer security talk
Aurora University information technology students will give a free seminar on computer security at 5 tonight in Room 118 of Dunham Hall, 1400 Marseillaise Place in Aurora. They will discuss how computer users can protect their equipment from viruses and malware, software designed to slow PC operation and to track users' operations. They will demonstrate how users can protect and maintain equipment, and identify e-mail scams. Students will also distribute free handouts on sources of free anti-virus and anti-malware software.
Holiday gala planned
The St. Charles Park District and Delnor Glen Senior Living Community will put on the 16th annual Christmas Gala Affair for adults from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday at St. Charles Country Club, 1250 Country Club Road. The gala will include a cash bar, dinner and music by Bob Hoge and the Olde Tyme Band. Admission is $25 for the district's adult activity center members and $37.50 for visitors. TV bug guy to perform
Entomologist Ruud Kleinpaste, star of Animal Planet's "Buggin' With Ruud" will perform at 7 tonight at Sycamore High School. Tickets are $20 for the general public, $15 for members of the Midwest Museum of Natural History. Call (815) 895-4366.
Arrange Santa phone call
Parents can arrange for Santa, Mrs. Claus or an elf to place a special call to a child next month through the St. Charles Park District. Forms for the "Santa's Calling" program are available at Pottawatomie Community Center, 8 North Ave., and Baker Community Center, 101 S. Second St. They must be returned no later than Friday. Early registration is recommended. Arranged phone calls will be made Dec. 10. The cost is $4 for district residents and $6 for nonresidents. All proceeds benefit the Salvation Army. Pageant taking stage
"The Best Christmas Pageant Ever" will be presented at 7 p.m. Friday, 5 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at Fox Valley Park District's Prisco Community Center, 150 W. Illinois Ave., Aurora.
