Maple Park woman dies in Virgil Twp. crash

A 19-year-old Maple Park woman died today after a one-vehicle rollover crash in Virgil Township, authorities said.

Police identified the woman as Jennifer C. Flaherty, of the 300 block of West DeKalb Drive.

Flaherty was taken to Delnor-Community Hospital in Geneva with "significant head injuries" after the 11:50 a.m. crash, Kane County Coroner Chuck West said. She later died, a hospital spokeswoman said.

According to police, Flaherty was eastbound on Route 38 when the 2002 Ford Focus SE she was driving left the road about 500 feet west of Meredith Road. The car hit a ditch and rolled over, ejecting Flaherty, the sole occupant, police said.

Authorities have not provided a cause for the accident, but say it did not appear to be related to the intersection, where an 18-year-old woman was killed in a Nov. 9 crash.
