A house-walking we will go
St. Joseph parish in Libertyville will once again bring people into the holiday spirit and maybe help provide some decorating ideas as its holds its annual house walk from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
Before taking a look at the Santas, angels and decorated trees, here are a few details about this holiday tradition.
21: The number of years St. Joseph Church's Women's Guild has hosted its holiday house walk, selling between 400 and 700 tickets each year.
20: The number of area vendors who sell their unique items from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the church's Koenig Center.
$8: That's the cost to join the church's new luncheon that will feature a choice of soup, quiche, salad, dessert, holiday punch and coffee.
5: The number of homes featured across Libertyville to view. They are owned by Joel and Jenny Davis, Steve and Kieron Quane, David and Amy Fiore, Tom and Deborah Werner and Eric and Jennifer Christensen. In addition, guests can view the recently built residence for St. Joe's priests.
400: That is about how many ornaments the Quanes have placed on a 14-foot tree displayed in their family room. But Kieron adds most of their decorating is kept simple to appear warm and cozy and so people who come there can find ideas they can do as well.
8: The number of decorated trees the Fiores have throughout their home, including sports themes in the boys' bedrooms, princess and angel themes for the girls and a tree filled with family pictures in the family room.
7: That is how many family members in the Christensen family will help decorate their new home for the house walk. Eric, Jennifer and their five children moved into the home last May, and the children, ranging from ages 6 to 13, all look forward to helping decorate, Jennifer said.
$20: The ticket cost if purchased in advance.
$25: The ticket price if purchased the day of the event.
15: That is how many charities receive all proceeds of the house walk each year. Among the local charities that benefit are Youth and Family Counseling, Willow House and the Haven.
