An odd reason for lauding police chief

I would like to comment regarding the Nov. 22 article, "Chief lauded for gun control efforts."

I think that law enforcement should be recognized for efforts that bring about positive results, but I don't believe this was one of them.

The Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence must be in the throes of desperation if it cannot find a better reason to give an award than to award a failed attempt to reinstate the assault weapons ban.

This article was very misleading in that it seemed to intentionally leave out the fact that this effort was defeated.

The defeat was the result of the national politicians being made aware of the fact that the majority of Americans understand that weapons in the hands of good and honest people are not a threat to society. They are a deterrent to criminals.
