NTSB investigators say signals working in Chicago train collision

Officials investigating a train crash on Chicago's South Side say they've reviewed data from a signal event recorder on the train tracks.

The National Transportation Safety Board says preliminary data shows the signals appeared to be working. They'll have more details Sunday afternoon.

Spokesman Keith Holloway says officials are wrapping up the on-scene investigation, but a full review will take months.

The double-decker Amtrak train carrying passengers to Chicago from Grand Rapids, Michigan slammed into a freight train Friday, causing dozens of minor injuries.

The train's engineer told investigators he applied the emergency brakes when he spotted the freight train on the tracks.
