Teachers have no cause to complain

After reading all of the letters submitted by teachers, I am amazed that they seem to believe no one else takes their work home with them at night or works past their regular office hours. I am truly amazed that they dismiss so readily the fact that they get 2½ months off each summer, in addition to the normal sick, holiday and personal days they get throughout the work year.

I realize that some teachers may work during that time, but it is my observation that most don't, and please don't tell me that going in for a few hours during the summer to rearrange your classroom and office is comparable to putting in an eight-hour day at the office.

When I see the payroll in our District 87, and see that roughly one-third of the employees make over $80,000 a year and in addition have extraordinary benefits including a very nice pension provided by taxpayers who are mostly without pensions nowadays, it makes me wish I would have had more foresight when I was determining my career. I certainly would have become a teacher.
