Teen held in Bensenville robbery

Police dogs helped track an armed robbery suspect Thursday night in Bensenville.

Officers were called to the Dunkin' Donuts at 1004 W. Irving Park Road about 9:30 p.m. after a man entered the store and demanded cash from the clerk.

Police said the man, who was wearing a ski mask, took the money and "fled on foot" from the store.

The Hoffman Estates police canine unit was called to help conduct the search. Their dog "tracked the scent to the location" of a house on the 1000 block of Brookwood, said Linda Dickson, Bensenville's spokeswoman.

Police found Darpesh Patel, 17, of Bartlett inside the house. They also recovered cash, a ski mask and a replica handgun at the Brookwood address, officials said.

Patel, of 259 Hill Ave., has been charged with felony armed robbery. He remained Friday in the DuPage County jail on a $500,000 bond.
