Briefs: Groom cleared in melee

A judge has acquitted a bridegroom and his brother on charges they battered a police officer at an Orland Park wedding reception. Judge David Sterba found the groom's cousin guilty of disturbing the peace at Silver Lake Country Club. Groom Andrew Terrell, brother George Terrell and cousin Jason Terrell were accused of beating up an Orland Park officer working as a private security guard during the March 2006 reception. Officer Peter Diangi claims the Terrells attacked him after he tried to warn one of them not to serve alcohol to underage guests. But some witnesses blamed Diangi for the fight and testified he sprayed the crowd with pepper spray. The bride's mother is suing Diangi and Silver Lake, saying they ruined the wedding.

TV falls on boy, kills him

A 5-year-old boy died after a television fell on him in his South Side home. Police said it's not clear how the television fell on Sergio Chavez, but they said his death was accidental. A spokesman for the Cook County medical examiner's office said the incident happened some time Wednesday night. He says the boy was pronounced dead Thursday morning at University of Chicago Hospitals. The Department of Children and Family Services says it is investigating the boy's death, but spokesman Jimmie Whitelow says the agency never had prior contact with Sergio's family.
