New movies, TV on DVD

Since 1969, Professor Richard Brown has taught a film class at New York University, which resulted from Brown's love of movies. The class started with small numbers, and quickly grew to where there wasn't an empty seat to be found.

Brown's students meet a wide variety of people from the entertainment industry, giving them a keen insight into moviemaking. AMC filmed a pilot and then picked up the show for its viewers, and "Movies 101" is now seen by 86 million film lovers all over the world.

"AMC Movies 101" (City Lights, four discs, $39.95)

In this special edition, Brown interviews 16 fascinating celebrities in segments that are revealing, smart and funny. They include Martin Scorsese, Whoopi Goldberg, Susan Sarandon, Jennifer Aniston, Sigourney Weaver, George Clooney, Daniel Day-Lewis, Willem Dafoe, Jon Voight, Jeff Bridges and others. Each interview lasts 45 minutes, which is 20 minutes longer than what was broadcast on AMC. Each disc has an interview with Brown and a DVD-ROM link with bonus interviews.

You felt that you were watching a James Bond story each week, and the show developed a loyal and devoted fan base.
