Bears' success begins at home

Lake Zurich, state champs! Sounds great, doesn't it?

I am sure by now you have heard the Lake Zurich Bears have won the IHSA 7A state football championship. What an exciting time to live in this town. "Brick by brick," Lake Zurich has continually shown that we are a community of doers not followers as evidenced by Coach Brian Stortz's high school football team. This team is proof that hard work and perseverance pays off with huge dividends.

As with all good things, the journey has not been easy. Football, as defined by Vince Lombardi, played as a disciplined sport, is much more than a game. In its purist form, football is much like life itself. You have highs and lows, challenges and setbacks, but the goal is to win, and win playing by the rules.

Many people in this community have spent tireless hours supporting and "doing" the right things to pave the way for our young men and women to do their deeds, whether it is on the athletic fields, classrooms or auditoriums…we excel.

Where does this success start? Look no farther than our youth programs and families; they are the best in the area and become the foundation on which our children start their lives. Success is earned, nobody gives you success.

In the Lake Zurich area, parents participate and businesses contribute to these programs. They give countless hours of time and money to ensure that our programs are successful. My family is proud to have had the opportunity to participate and be a part of this endeavor.

A phrase has been used for several years by a good friend, "Good things are happening in Lake Zurich," I am proud of our community and the hundreds of people that have donated their time to make this state championship a reality.

In closing, if you are not currently involved, I challenge the young parents and businesses of the area to become a part of this excitement. Participate, give your time and make a difference. You will be paid back…and it is a great feeling.
