Everyone must conserve energy

I am in a quandry. I am told every day about the need to conserve energy: Smaller light, turn them off when leaving the room, pull the plug on not-in-use appliances, etc.

So why is it that all electronic places have every television playing all day long? It doesn't seem like my going from a 100-watt to a 60-watt bulb is going to make a whole lot of difference. Can't they turn them on when someone is interested? Just asking.
