Briefs: Concert raises cash

A benefit concert at Mundelein High School raised $900 for a scholarship fund. Student bands called Aura Soma and Samadhi Vibe played Nov. 23. Proceeds will benefit the Joe Flynn Memorial Scholarship Fund, which honors a Mundelein High graduate who died in 2005. The scholarship will be awarded in May.

Village extends burn dates

Hawthorn Woods decided Monday night to extend by two weeks the amount of time residents have to burn leaves. The village normally only allows leaf burning from April 1 to May 15 and Oct. 15 to Nov. 30. Officials said a late arrival of cold weather caused many leaves to stay on trees until recently. The board decided to give residents more time to dispose of those leaves. Leaf burning is only allowed on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., according to village code, and fires have to be extinguished by 6 p.m.

Tollway closures

One lane in each direction of the Tri-State tollway will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday from Willow Road to Sanders Road as part of a project to rebuild and widen the Willow Road bridge. Also on those days and during the same time, one lane in each direction will close from the Sanders Road overpass to the Edens Spur ramp. One southbound lane will close from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Thursday. Further north on the tollway, one lane in each direction between Route 120 and Wadsworth Road will close at 7 p.m. for barrier wall work. All lanes will reopen at 5 a.m. Thursday.

Watershed meeting today:

After a year of work, the plan to maintain the quality and quantity of water in the Barrington Area's Flint Creek Watershed is set to be unveiled. The Flint Creek Watershed Partnership will host a special meeting tonight designed to inform the community about the plan, which recommends actions to improve water quality, natural resources and flooding in the 36.5-square mile watershed. It includes all or portions of Barrington, Barrington Hills, Deer Park, Hawthorn Woods, Inverness, Lake Barrington, Lake Zurich and North Barrington. The meeting, which also will give residents a chance to ask questions about the plan, is scheduled for 7 p.m. today at Barrington Village Hall, 200 S. Hough St. For more information, visit citizensforconservation.org.
