Paralegal information: Learn what it takes to begin a paralegal career at information sessions sponsored by the College of Lake County Paralegal Studies Program. Potential students will learn about the paralegal profession, the job outlook and CLC's paralegal certificate and the Associate in Applied Science degree. They will also meet the faculty and other students.

Information sessions will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. and 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, from 9 to 10 a.m. Jan. 12 and from 7 to 8 p.m. Jan. 15 in room T 117 on the Grayslake Campus.

Discovery! Workshop: As part of College of Lake County's Discovery! program, designed for adult learners 50 and over, R.J. Lindsey will portray colorful businessman and Chicago banker Charles Gates Dawes from 1 to 2:30 p.m. on Thursday. Brigadier General Dawes will share details about the politics and alliances that exploded into WWI. Dawes went on to become the first director of the Bureau of the Budget under President Warren Harding and served as vice president with Calvin Coolidge. The course fee is $15.

Día de la Familia Latina: Latino families are invited to the College of Lake County for Día de la Familia Latina, an event to showcase the college's many educational opportunities, including free English as a Second Language classes, career and technical training and associate degree transfer programs that can be applied toward a bachelor's degree.

This free event will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday in rooms C002, C003 and C005 (lower Level C Wing) of the Grayslake campus. Designed for the whole family, this outreach event includes food and child care for kids ages 3 and older. There will be panel discussions in English and Spanish on how to get started at CLC, a panel discussion by Latino parents of CLC students and a student panel discussion. There is also a time for one-on-one meetings with CLC staff members.

CLC offers educational opportunities for new high school graduates as well as for older students who would like to improve their English and gain new career skills. The community is invited to learn about financial aid, degree and certificate programs, free English as a Second Language classes and career skills classes with ESL support. Participants may attend the whole program or just the sessions they are interested in.

The panel discussion schedule is as follows:

• 1-2:30 p.m. and 3:30-5 p.m. in Room C005, All About CLC: Learn about how to apply, educational program options, career preparation and financial aid.

• 2:45-3:15 p.m. in Room C005, Parent Panel: Latino parents of CLC students talk about their families' experiences with CLC.

• 2:45-3:15 p.m. in Room C002, Student Panel: Learn what it's like to attend CLC from current students.

• 5-6 p.m. at tables outside C005, Meet One on One with a CLC Staff Member: Get answers to all your questions about college.

Fall Xplore classes: Middle school students can make Saturdays a day to explore new topics such as manicures, Web pages or fencing through the College of Lake County Xplore program.

A variety of Xplore classes will be offered Saturday at the Lake County High Schools Technology Campus in Grayslake. Classes will be offered in Babysitting Certification, Web Design: Intermediate Dreamweaver, Hair Styling I, Graphic Design: Beginning Web Animation, Holiday Portrait Studio and Test Taking Strategies.

Xplore classes are offered in half-day sessions, mornings and afternoons.

The Lake County High Schools Technology Campus is in the northwest corner adjacent to the College of Lake County Grayslake Campus, 19351 W. Washington St.

Online classes are available in LEGO Engineering or Video Game Making for youth ages 8 to 17. For sports enthusiasts, late-starting Kids First Sports Safety programs are offered in baseball and soccer at the CLC Grayslake campus multipurpose field.

Food and Beverage Servers: The College of Lake County will offer the Beverage and Alcohol Sellers and Servers Educational Training (BASSET - PSST15) course. This four-hour class is certified by the Illinois Liquor Control Commission and will be offered Saturday. The cost is $35.

Thaddeus Rex: Thaddeus Rex, a nationally recognized children's songwriter, comedian and book nut, will perform a fun children's show at College of Lake County at 2 p.m. Sunday in Room C 005 (C Wing Auditorium) on the Grayslake campus.

Tickets for this family-friendly show are $5 or the donation of one new or gently used book per person. Donated books will be given to the Lake County Reach Out and Reach Program. Tickets can be purchased at the door.

Earnest auditions: Actors from the community are invited to audition for the College of Lake County Theatre Department's spring production of the classic Oscar Wilde comedy, "The Importance of Being Earnest."

Auditions will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 3 and 5 in the Studio Theatre of the James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts on the CLC Grayslake campus. Actors need only attend one audition.

Actors should bring an acting resume (if they have one) and prepare a two-minute memorized monologue from any comedy written before 1900. Callbacks will be held from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Dec. 6. The play's director, Craig Rich, is looking for four women and five men for the cast. Copies of the play are available at the College of Lake County Library/LRC circulation desk for in-library reading.

Rehearsals will begin Jan. 14. Performances are scheduled for Feb. 22 to Mar. 1. Rehearsals will be held Monday through Thursday evenings with the occasional Friday evening until technical rehearsal week. Actors should make sure they have these dates and times open before auditioning.

Give blood at CLC: The College of Lake County Health Center will conduct an American Red Cross blood drive from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Dec. 4 in the Brandel Court of Building B on the Grayslake Campus.

Donors must be 17 or older, weigh at least 110 pounds, be in good health and not have donated blood within 56 days. Donors will receive a mini-physical that includes a blood pressure check and iron-level count. Bring a photo ID.
