Conservatives ignore the facts

During the week of Nov. 4 through 10, readers of the Fence Post were treated to two unintentionally funny examples of the thinking of the right-wing mind. On Nov. 4, correspondent David Caldarola's fact-free screed veered from Mark Foley and Larry Craig to "President" Obama and Nancy Pelosi to offering a laughable "solution" to all of our disagreements by allowing Republicans and conservatives to fight our wars while having the "tax and spend liberals" pay all of our taxes.

Apparently, Mr. Caldarola has forgotten that all of the chickenhawk cheerleaders who got us into our current war in Iraq and pine away for a new war with Iran would never actually put their own personal safety on the line. And that, during the first six years of the Bush Administration, the Republican Party increased our national debt by 50 percent.

Then, on Nov. 8, correspondent Michael O'Brien offered a defense of the despicable Rush Limbaugh. Regurgitating the talking points of the Right Wing Scream Machine, Mr. O'Brien refers to Limbaugh's "phony soldiers" (emphasis on the plural) comment as referring to only one person. He then suggests that Oxycontin Rush was hooked by "worthless hacks" and states no one with "understanding" would attack a drug addict. Of course, Mr. O'Brien ignores the fact that Limbaugh used his housekeepers to buy the drugs for him. And that Limbaugh harshly criticized, and repeatedly called for the jailing of, drug addicts before becoming addicted himself. Mr. O'Brien finishes by complaining about the "slanderous" things people have said about Limbaugh while ignoring the avalanche of slander Limbaugh has heaped upon countless others.

Gentlemen, thank you for brightening my days with your comedic writings. And, please, don't ever let those pesky liberal facts get in the way of your beliefs.
