Burns appealing to young voter in 14th
To the editor: Being a 20-year-old Waubonsee college student, I have many thoughts and questions about the upcoming election for Congress. I turn on the TV and see ads, I read newspaper articles and I have even been to Web sites because I want to know each candidate can help me and will listen to me.
I may be young, but I am a responsible voter, and I want to be heard, too. I have noticed one candidate sticks out a bit from the rest. Mayor Kevin Burns is very interesting to me because he includes everyone. His team of volunteers includes high school and college-aged voters. That shows me that he cares about me.
On his Web site he states he is going to help and stand alongside the 14th Congressional District in the fight to shorten our dependence of foreign oil and to use more energy that is closer to us. That means a lot because I have my whole life ahead of me. I plan to marry and have kids. My kids will have kids, and I want them to live on a clean Earth. I do not want them to have to worry about an energy crisis like we do.
Burns has not only proven himself as a mayor of a terrific city, but as a leader. I can trust he will do the right thing. Being born and raised here, he knows the needs and wants of the people.
