• Jennifer M. Castillo, 34, of 515 N. Alfred Ave., Elgin, was arrested at 12:05 a.m. Sunday and charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, intent to deliver, driving under the influence of alcohol, improper lane usage, failure to use a turning signal and illegal transportation of alcohol. Police said they found one gram of cocaine in her pocket during a traffic stop at the corner of McClure and Highland avenues. She failed a sobriety test, posting a blood alcohol level of .175 percent, more than twice the legal limit of .08, reports said. The passenger in Castillo's car, Amy L. Wagner, 24, also of 515 N. Alfred Ave. in Elgin, was issued a ticket for unlawful transportation of alcohol after she told police she hid the bottles of beer they drank while driving. Wagner is due to appear in court at 1 p.m. Jan. 8 in Elgin. Castillo was being held in police custody Sunday afternoon, awaiting the next bond call.

• A $2,000 diamond engagement and wedding ring was reported stolen Saturday from a car parked in a city parking lot at 64 Villa Street. When the owner returned at 8:17 p.m., he found his car ransacked and his wife's leather purse, which contained the ring and assorted costume jewelry, missing. Police said the offender used a screwdriver-like device to pop out and smash the right front window.

• Items worth $1,810 were reported stolen from a parked car at 805 Dundee Avenue between 6 and 9 p.m. Saturday. The missing items included an unspecified tool worth $750, a $500 navigation system, a $300 nail gun and a $260 drill set.

• Between Nov. 21 and 23, someone used a sharp or pointed object to damage paint on 19 vehicles at the Feeny Chrysler dealership at 1010 E. Chicago St., police said. A damage estimate has yet to be determined.
