Chess class: Chess class for kindergarten through sixth grade will start from 3:05 to 4:05 p.m. Tuesday. Cost of class is $96. Learning this game can help improve reading, concentration, problem solving skills and math levels.

Kindermusik Village: A new session of Kindermusik Village will run from Thursday to Jan. 31 for newborns to 18 months. The program engages all of a child's senses and rewards curiosity with object and instrument exploration, vocal play, singing, massage and creative movement. Cost is $80 for class and $37 for materials.

Classes will be held at the Reed-Turner Woodland Nature Center. Call for times and other information.

Santa's coming to town: Santa will be at the Reed Turner Woodland from 1 to 3 p.m. Dec 9. to visit with all the boys and girls.

Be sure to bring a wrapped gift to donate to help the less fortunate enjoy the holiday. Indicate if the gift is for a boy or girl and the appropriate age. Also, any canned goods would be greatly appreciated for area food pantries.

Scout patches: The Long Grove Park District has patches available and activities for fulfilling merit badges for Boy and Girl Scouts. Patches for Scouts and groups are $1.50 each (regularly $2.50 to the public). The park district also has experience boxes to check out for the younger scouts. They are self-contained activities covering watersheds, botany, ecology and exploring nature. For more details, call the park district.
